i am covered in sweat, dirt, leaves, sap, and charcoal, half burnt half tan, completely exhausted.
camp work has begun.
there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes... we may have a work weekend here, but let me tell you, there's a lot more work that gets done both before and after that no one really thinks about.
clearing all the brush that's fallen into the lawn over the winter, all those broken branches...
clearing debris from the edges of said lawns and the centers. picking up all those little odds and ends that always seem to get missed in the camp wide clean ups that occur when campers and staff are here.
and that's really only the beginning. yesterday i cleared off 7 buckets of leaves from one small section of the lawn alone and there's a large burn pile sitting in the driveway waiting for the next damp day.
we haven't even begun to tackle the larger main lawn in fron of all the cabins, though i have started clearing brush from inbetween them. thursday we're re-roofing one of the cabins... that'll be fun.
sigh.
it's only just the beginning of a long work filled summer
a full time camper letting camp enthusiasts see it from the eyes of someone who sees it all

Staff
Sometimes I wish that i could choose who works here during the summer. It'd be nice to have a say in which people are in my life and yard for three months. And not to be rude or stuck up sounding, but I feel like I could hire some GOOD people. See counselors and directors only see so much. I see everything, I know a lot more about what goes on with every level. There was a certain person on staff that i've said for years wasn't fit for the job, and finally last year it came out just how unfit they were.
Sigh.
Just a thought. As I sit here waiting to find out if I can join the ranks of counselor , I think about who else might be joining me. And to be honest... Some of the people I'm thinking of.... It scares me to think they might be given power here. But we'll see. And who knows. They may surprise me...

long time no see....
well i certainly neglected this quite a bit didn't i?
whoops! but never fear friends!!
i am back, and fully intending to keep you up to date this summer :)
lets see what's happened in the year and a half since my last post?
honestly quite a bit. i won't bother trying to sum up last summers adventures since well, there were many and to be honest at the time i was pretty caught up in my own personal drama.
recent developments in my personal life (in case any of you care) contain a high school graduation ( yes i did it!) my first heartbreak </3, a slump into quite a depression, a two month journey to spain, and college.
yes, college. i who was oh so adament for years about not wanting to attend, have ended up pursuing higher education. in all honestly it was just because i got bored and lonely at home! either way i now attend university of north carolina at asheville and positively love it. in fact tomorrow afternoon i have my last final and tomorrow night my parents will be here to pick me up and it'll be back to camp land for me!
it's nice to think that summer vacation for me begins in may now, but then i remember that this is when we really start cleaning camp up for the season, starting to make lists of what needs to be done to make it camper ready, and getting a head start on those tasks. and since my brother will still be in school for the next month, it will be my duty, as per usual, to help my father with everything that needs to be done.
which i'm not going to lie i'm not looking forward to.
all these people just show up in the summer and have NO idea how much work really goes into the set up and management of everything. though i could say that about what they know about how the kitchen runs as well. or how the bathrooms get cleaned. or the showers. or how the kitchen laundry gets done. or what time the kitchen staff gets up every morning. or the fact that we DO notice how much food you spill on the floor and blatantly leave there. but anyway. not going to go off on that now as i can guarantee you'll hear plenty of it this summer.
yes i am once again dedicating all my time from the moment camp begins until i need to vacate for educational purposes to camp. dividing my time up between being a counselor and my usual stint in the kitchen. though this year for the first time i will be an assistant cook for a couple weeks so i'm really excited for a new experience!
anyway, i really should get back to my humanities paper! due tomorrow dontcha know!
anyway, the summer countdown begins!!!
questions or comments?
feel free, but keep them nice!
